The Mazda CX-5 is Mazda’s most significant product which continues to be its best-selling model by a huge margin. Mazda debuted the similarly sized CX-50 for the 2023 model year which raised Concerns about the CX-5’s future.
This was if it would still be in the lineup when Mazda introduced the CX-50. However, Mazda has unveiled three teaser photographs of the CX-5, which is getting ready to enter its third generation.
How does the 2026 CX-5 look like?
From what we can see in these dark images, the 2026 CX-5’s styling seems to be more of an improvement than an overhaul. The shape doesn’t appear to be dramatically different than the present model, with thin headlamps and a wide-mouthed grille.
The headlights have two hockey-stick-shaped LED elements, just like on the 2025 CX-5, however this time they are placed one on top of the other rather than side by side.
The taillights in the back have a long, thin appearance that feels consistent with the larger CX-90 thanks to a hook-shaped LED that sweeps down and across the taillight.
Engine and power
Presumably, the CX-5 will launch with a familiar gas engine, most likely a variant of the SUV’s current 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, which comes in both naturally aspirated and turbocharged variants.
However, earlier this year, Mazda announced that a hybrid powertrain will be added to the fleet in 2027. The CX-5 Hybrid will use an internal design rather than a hybrid system borrowed from Toyota, as the present CX-50 Hybrid does.
We anticipate it will be paired with at least one electric motor in addition to that 2.5-liter inline-four, though this is not guaranteed.
Currently, Mazda is promoting the new CX-5 in the interim by claiming that it will be a “more engaging, intuitive drive with refined control and a smoother response.
” We’re happy that the third-generation model continues to prioritize driver interaction because the company’s crossovers are usually among the most enjoyable to drive in their respective segments.
The 2026 model is set to be unveiled officially on July 10 and is expected to go on sale in later this year
