2026 Nissan Qashqai e-Power gets next-gen hybrid tech

The 2026 Nissan Qashqai e-Power introduces the next-generation e-Power drivetrain, which promises lower fuel consumption and operating expenses as well as a smoother driving experience.

The third-generation Qashqai e-Power has a lighter, five-in-one hybrid drivetrain that incorporates a brand-new 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. This car will go on sale in Europe in September, according to Nissan.

The Nissan e-Power system is a range-extending hybrid system. This means that an electric motor provides power and the gasoline engine charges the car’s battery instead of driving the wheels.

Later in 2026, it is anticipated that the huge Nissan X-Trail SUV would also be equipped with the upgraded technology.

The New generation of the Qashqai, which competes with the Hyundai Kona and Toyota Corolla Cross, has fuel economy as low as 4.5L/100km (WLTP), down from 5.1-5.3L/100km in previous models.

According to the Japanese carmaker, the Qashqai e-Power, which has a 55L gasoline tank, can travel up to 1200 km on less fuel while emitting 12% less carbon dioxide (down to 102g/km) and producing 5.6dB less noise in the interior.

To add to the excitement, the next-generation e-Power will also have a new Sport Mode that boosts power by 10kW.

The current Qashqai e-Power, which comes in Ti and N Design model grades, was unveiled a year after the e-Power technology was first used in the larger Nissan X-Trail SUV.

A 1.5-liter, three-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine with 140kW and 330Nm is powered by a 2.1kWh lithium-ion battery.

The electric motor, generator (petrol engine), inverter, reducer, and increaser comprise the new, lighter, and more compact five-in-one powertrain used by the e-Power system.

In addition to improved fuel efficiency, power rises by 11kW to 151kW. The same 2.1kWh lithium-ion battery pack powers the upgraded Qashqai e-Power.

Despite its similarities to the current engine, the new 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine is said to be completely new. It has a larger turbocharger, which Nissan claims reduces rpm and saves fuel when driving on highways.

Official claims state that compared to the present Qashqai e-Power, there is a 14% increase in highway efficiency and a 16% improvement in “real-world conditions.”

With the new-generation Qashqai e-Power only requiring maintenance every 20,000 kilometers as opposed to the existing model’s 15,000 kilometers, scheduled servicing intervals have been extended.

Nissan has also confirmed that the Qashqai will get more connected car technology. This includes “Nissan Trip Stories,” which stores trip information that can be accessed and shared via the Nissan Connected Services smartphone app, and voice command via Google Assistant with access to apps via Google Play.

Nissan UK’s Qashqai range starts at £30,615 and includes e-Power and mild-hybrid variants. Higher trim options include:

N-Connecta – £33,085.

N-Design – £35,005.

Tekna – £35,005

Tekna+ costs £39,155.

The e-Power (Tekna-grade) model is expected to cost between £33,000 and £43,000, with a typical prototype priced at roughly £33,000.
